Artist Profile - Veranoa Hetet
Daughter of Master Carver, Rangi Hetet and Master Weaver, Erenora Puketapu- Hetet, Veranoa Hetet grew up totally immersed in Maori Art. With her parents being fulltime artists, it was only natural that Veranoa also take this pathway.
Taught by her mother and father from a very young age Veranoa has now been weaving for over 32 years and continues the Hetet family tradition in creating artworks of an incredibly high quality.
Her work can be found in private collections around the world as well as public galleries and buildings throughout New Zealand.
Veranoa is of Ngati
Tuwharetoa, Ngati Maniapoto and Te Atiawa descent. She is married to carver and teacher Sam Hauwaho of Tuhoe and Te Aitanga a Hauiti descent. They have five children and live in the tribal
settlement in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
Meeting Veranoa and coming to understand the passion and knowledge she has for weaving as well as her creativity and skill has been inspirational for me and her input and advice as one of the initial artists involved in the project has been invaluable.
